About Us
Nurturing BayBees (originally The Labor Mami) was founded in 2018 after Alreema became a solo private doula in Newark, New Jersey. Alreema aimed to provide comprehensive birth and postpartum support, empowering families to achieve their desired birth experiences. Initially focused on prevention, she recognized the importance of education in this journey. In 2021, after becoming a NJ Medicaid Doula, Alreema shifted her focus exclusively to support Medicaid families, reaffirming her commitment to delivering quality care and preventative services to underserved BIPOC families.
As her birth justice knowledge grew and, supporting marginalized communities deepened, so did her business aspirations. In 2024, she undertook a major transformation of Nurturing BayBees, launching Nurturing Families Two, elevating her mission to a life-changing level. This revamp introduced specialized services for BIPOC families on Medicaid, particularly those living in urban areas or low-income and immigrant challenges. However, her goal was still missing something. After some deep thought, Alreema decided to revamp Nurturing BayBees and Nurturing Families Two one more time.
Nurturing BayBess switched gears into a perinatal home health agency in order to support families beyond the allocated Medicaid doula benefit of 8 visits for doula care. Nurturing Families Two shifted into a community based extension providing non-doula services, classes, programs. groups and events suggested by the communities she serve. The goal with the expansion is to be an all in one structure and redefining what "continuity of care" looks like. This will be done by supporting all marginalized groups under any insurance regardless of residence, income, sex, and religion.
We are ready to community this!

Our Mission
Our mission is to empower underserved birthing and postpartum families by ensuring they have access to culturally sensitive care through our customized services. We are committed to advocating for the end of preventable infant and maternal deaths in our country. While our programs are designed to benefit everyone, we specifically focus on supporting marginalized insurance based BIPOC families in New Jersey and eventually throughout the East region.
