Supporting The Client

The following information is regarding the services listed on the "doula packages" page. This is how Nurturing BayBees shows up.

Birth/Labor

If the client is receiving in-person labor support - we prefer laboring at home. Laboring at home should only be considered for birthing persons with no to low-risk labor factors. If you as the client was informed to go to the hospital immediately, are being induced, scheduled for a cesarean or labeled high risk - laboring at home is not a good option nor recommended.

The purpose for laboring at home is to give the birthing person control over their wants and desires while listening to their bodies. At home families are most comfortable, free and don't have the mental stressors of having the medical staff continuously coming into the room or being offered medications. Laboring at home is ideal for families who seek no to low medical interventions.

For this type of service, the doula does not arrive immediately. Families are expected to self-manage the 1st half of labor at home. Once the birthing person feels it's time to head to the hospital the doula will meet them there and head up together. If there's an emergency, families are advised to not wait for the doula and seek medical treatment immediately. The doula will head up to family once they arrive at the hospital. Emergencies could be bleeding/hemorrhaging, passing out, no fetal movement, etc.

Cesarean

If the client is receiving planned cesarean support the doula will meet the birthing person or family at the hospital and they will go up together. If there's an emergency, families are advised to not wait for the doula and seek medical treatment immediately. The doula will head up to family once they arrive at the hospital. Emergencies could be bleeding/hemorrhaging, passing out, no fetal movement, etc.

Postpartum,
& Newborn

If the client is receiving these services, it should be booked by 36 weeks no later than 38 weeks preferably. This allows for the family and doula to build an early relationship. This service is completed in the client's home and booked as needed with 4 hours minimum.

Bereavement

If the client is receiving this service, it comes after or before the transition of a birthing person or baby. Service might be booked after a stillborn, at the diagnosis of a terminal baby, to care for a birthing person receiving an abortion, the passing of the mother or another unfortunate event.

Family Coaching, Mood Support
Or Meals

If the client is receiving any of these services, it is booked as needed pending availability.

Health & Wellness

Vaccines

The staff, mentees or contractors of Nurturing BayBees may not be vaccinated. If this is a need for the client or family, we highly advise to seek services with another doula or agency.

Mask

If the doula comes in close contact with the family like at births a mask will be worn. If the doula is not around family or not within close distance the doula may have maskless moments.

Sickness

If the client or doula test positive or is sick prior to any home visits, they must be rescheduled. If the client or doula test positive prior to the doula arrival at the hospital the services will transition to virtual support. Our goal is to protect the client, families and baby coming earth side.

Back Ups

Nurturing BayBees is a solo practice and rarely has a need for backups as we only provide limited planned vaginal birth support which is about 6 - 8 per year. All other support is scheduled or has the ability to be rescheduled excluding planned cesareans. Backups may be used if the doula is under the weather longer than 3 - 5 days or a client needs birth coverage.

Illnesses

If the client has any known illnesses that could be transferred by blood or any bodily fluids, it is important they must disclose this to the doula. This helps the doula wear the appropriate PPE.

Security & Safety

Touch

Touch is only used as a comfort measure and should not make the client feel uneasy. Touch is never on or in the vaginal and vulva area nor rectum.

Photos & Videos

Photos and videos may be taken for marketing purposes. The client is not obligated to partake in photos or videos. Photos and videos will capture the world of birth. Most photos and videos will be taken from angles to avoid direct face shots, unless stated otherwise.

Safety Word

We like to establish a safety word for all parties. The word can be used if the doula sees a teachable moment, a lack or forced medical care or even an uneasy birthing person. The word can be used by the client if they feel confused or need to speak with the doula without the presence of medical staff.

Safety word: “Cherries or Cherry”

Rides & Files

The person who would have immediate access to files, and aware of client addresses for visits would be my fiance. He assists with my calendar and providing emergent care for families. My location is shared with him at all times.

Domestic Abuse

If the client has or had a partner who may be abusive or irrational, the client should disclose this information. This includes the potential to be armed, stalking, or places the family and doula is harms way.

Pets

We all love pets! However, if your pet has the ability to be vicious or trained not to welcome strangers in the home, please put them away before visits. To date, we do not have any known allergies to animals.

Payment Methods

Insurance

If the client is paying under the health insurance, we charge the MCO's directly. The client will not receive a bill unless the client purchases additional services not covered by the health provider.

Cash

If the client is paying in cash, they have the option to pay upfront or pay in parts.

Upfront fees are only to secure due dates for vaginal or cesarean births. Other services need to be paid at least 1 week prior to requested or booked services.

HSA/FSA/HRA

If the client would like to use any of these medical accounts, they must contact their insurance provider to see if funds may be used. The client will need to pay for services upfront and if eligible they will be reimbursed by their insurance company.

Payment Plan

If the client books within an appropriate time frame they could be eligible for a payment plan. Payment plans are only available to birthing clients (vaginal and cesareans). Payment plans are set depending on when the client books services.

If the booking date overlaps your next payment date both must be paid at the same time. This will be outlined upfront so you all parties are aware.

For example: Client is 25 weeks. They will be under option 1. Paying $150 and 25% of service.

For example: Client is 17 weeks. They will be under option 1. Paying $150 then 25% at 24 weeks.

  • Option 1: $150 deposit at booking, 20% at 20 weeks, 20% at 24 weeks, 20% at 28 weeks, 20% at 32 weeks and final balance at 36 weeks.

  • Option 2: $150 deposit at booking, 30% at 28 weeks, 30% at 32 weeks and final balance at 36 weeks.
